The Kids Are Alright

I love my modern family. My parents got divorced when I was a kid and my father remarried a woman who had a 2 year old daughter who, when I was 12, became my sister. And her cousins became my cousins and my cousins became theirs.

They are salt of the Earth people. The kind you can call at 3am and say I need you and they say, I'm on my way. As we would do for them. Subsequently our parents divorced as well but we remained a family.

Even when my stepmother Jessie remarried, my kids would say how is Uncle Ralph our uncle? Well he is grandpa's second wife's third husband. But who cares, love is love.

I sat down with my sister and my cousins kids to chat about Jocko Willink's kids book, Way of The Warrior Kid. I heard him on Joe Rogan and started listening to his podcast. (If my father were alive he would be addicted to listening to Jocko's stories of being a Navy Seal for over 20 years.)

The book is about honor, integrity, character, being humble, working hard and standing up for what is right. It's a book that in this day and age should be required reading for every middle school kid. They did not know what a podcast even was but they were great. It's short but sweet since they were more interested in getting back to playing outside than sitting but take a listen. More importantly, get the book and pass it on.
